This week is Highland High School’s Homecoming, though Monday was the only full day of school the entire week. This is a result of parent-teacher conferences being held Tuesday and Thursday. Whenever they are held, the school has a half day of classes, and no school on Friday to allow the teachers time to rest. In spite of the abnormal schedule, homecoming activities will be going on as normal, highlighted by Wednesday’s Boom Night. Boom Night activities begin at 6 p.m with a small parade around the high school track. Organizer Carrie Wieland said in the past they’ve rotated the location of the homecoming parade between Riverside and Ainsworth, but this year they decided to have it at the high school as a middle ground. There will also be drill team performances, powder puff football, and the coronation of the homecoming king and queen.

Thursday will be the Husky Olympics, with students competing in various games and events. The football game against Columbus will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday, and will be followed at 9:30 p.m. by the homecoming dance. At the dance there will be music and a laser light show by Club TeenXtreme, as well as pizza provided by Casey’s. The 2016 Highland homecoming queen candidates are Kylen Anderson, Megan Dresselhaus, Kelsey Hora, and Ashlyn Weber. The king candidates are Spencer Arnold, Billy Burton, Hunter Erwin, and Johnny Poeschel.
