Behind a balanced scoring effort, the Highland Huskies volleyball team (22-11) advanced past the opening round of the Class 2A Region 8 tournament last week. The Huskies tallied 29 kills and 7 aces, helping the squad to a straight set victory over the Louisa Muscatine Falcons (25-11, 25-14, 25-11) last Tuesday.

Four Huskies players recorded five or more kills in the match victory. Aly Stokes led the way with six kills and 10 digs. Brylee Carolan, Kelsey Hora, and Bailey Harmston had five kills apiece. Kristy Thomann topped the Huskies with three aces.

The victory moves the Huskies into tomorrow’s regional quarterfinal round against the North Cedar Knights (32-5). The Knights are the top overall seed in the bracket, winning 32 of the 37 matches they played. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at North Cedar High School in Stanwood.
