Homecoming week ended on a high note for the Highland Huskies’ football team (4-3 overall) Friday. The Huskies hosted the Columbus Wildcats (1-6 overall) for a district battle. Highland’s defense held Columbus off the scoreboard and the Huskies’ offense scored one touchdown in each quarter for a 28-0 victory.

Highland running back Trey Lasek recorded a game-high 212 rushing yards and one touchdown on 34 carries. Wideout Trent Lasek caught six passes for 67 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Quarterback Jake Wood completed 15 of 23 passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Defensive back Bill Burton led the Huskies’ defense with seven tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

Columbus amassed 191 yards of total offense, 127 yards rushing and 64 passing.

The victory improves Highland’s overall record to 4-3, while the loss drops Columbus’ record to 1-6. The Huskies continue their season this Friday in Letts, squaring off against the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons (2-5 overall). The Wildcats will host No. 1 Iowa City Regina (6-1 overall) this week.
