Earlier in October, the Farmers Electric Cooperative in Kalona started work on an addition to their solar panel array with the help of Iowa Wind and Solar. The construction of the new solar array was completed recently, and it can now begin providing nearly two megawatts of energy per year to members of the cooperative. This added 2,880 new panels to the existing array, and the completed array will be able to provide energy to nearly 200 homes for a year.

The construction of the array was broadcast live over the internet, and according to Jen Kranz of Iowa Wind and Solar, this is the first time to her knowledge a solar installation has been live-streamed. Since this was such a large-scale operation, they decided to go all out in promotion of the new array. With the addition of the new panels, Kalona is now home to the largest solar array in the state.
