The roof of the Keota Junior High gymnasium has been completed, and Superintendent Dennis Phelps says activities in the gym will begin immediately. There’s still one piece of work left to do on the gym, which is putting a metal edging on the outside of the roof. That will happen in the next week, but as of now, the roof is complete. Phelps said the only thing that could keep them out of it at this point is if the cleaning of the floor takes longer than expected. He explains the floor could still be slippery for a while, as there has been a layer of fine dust and dirt from the construction process. The hope is it gets a certain level of stickiness to it that will make it usable the rest of the year. There’s still a possibility they could replace the floor, but Phelps said they wouldn’t do that until the summer. As the school year continues, if they need to do any repairs to the floor, they are prepared to do so. Phelps added, the gym looks good, especially with the new paint on the inside, and it seems like an entirely new gym.
