The middle of October isn’t typically peak season for camping, but you wouldn’t know that when visiting Lake Darling. According to Park Ranger Zach Haworth, the last several weeks have been just as busy as any week during the summer. For the last four weekends, all of the full hook-up and electrical campsites have been occupied, as have the cabins. Additionally, the lodge has hosted a wedding every weekend for the last month.

While it’s generally believed the best time for camping is in the summer, Haworth says some people would argue we are currently in the prime camping season. With the leaves changing and the temperatures cooling down, he says people find it enjoyable to sit around a campfire in these conditions. He adds, it’s not uncommon to see business increase during the fall, and it can be as busy as the summer time with the right weather. With the recent winterizing and shutting down of the two shower facilities, they could see reservations decrease. However, Haworth still feels confident the park will be heavily utilized for several more weeks, largely thanks to the popularity of the new four-season cabins.
