The undefeated run for the No. 4 Lone Tree Lions (7-1 overall) came to an end Friday in Marengo. The Lions took their unblemished record on the road for a district showdown against the Iowa Valley Tigers (6-2 overall). Lone Tree, who allowed a total of 69 points in the first seven weeks, gave up 446 yards of total offense in a 62-38 loss.

Injuries limited Lone Tree seniors Drake Hotz and Jovonte Squiers to five combined carries for 17 yards. Quarterback Trey Pierson accounted for 308 yards of total offense and five touchdowns. He ran the ball 11 times for 128 yards and four scores. He added 180 yards passing and one touchdown. Sam Fuhrmeister caught three passes for 56 yards and one touchdown. He also returned a kickoff 65 yards for a score.

The Lions conclude the regular season at home this Friday versus the Midland Eagles (7-1 overall). The Eagles, who top the district standings with a 5-0 record, crushed the winless English Valleys Bears (0-8 overall), 70-0, last Friday in Wyoming. Lone Tree can clinch a playoff spot with a 12 point victory over Midland, and a win by 14 or more points will give the Lions the district title.
