Louisa County Conservation is hosting their annual Halloween Hike this Saturday, though there won’t be any ghosts or ghouls at the Virginia Grove Recreation Area. Naturalist Lana Artz-McComb explained they stay away from anything scary and instead go towards activities that are educational while also being fun and silly. The theme for this year’s hike is “Stuck on You,” and will focus on plants and animals in nature that survive by sticking onto something else. The hikes will start at 6:30 p.m., with groups leaving every 10 minutes. While on the hike, attendees will encounter volunteer actors putting on skits about the sticky creatures.

When deciding on the theme for the hike, Artz-McComb said she feels talking about stuff that annoys us, but doing it in a silly way, can help people understand them better. She feels programs like this are important, to show people environmental education can sometimes be best outside of a classroom. Louisa County Conservation has hosted a Halloween Hike for around 15 years, and Artz-McComb advises there’s almost always a waiting list for the event. They can take 25 people in each group, and there is a limited amount of time slots, so she recommends people register as soon as possible.
