From kickoff it was all Golden Hawks Friday night as the Mid-Prairie football team handled the Anamosa Blue Raiders 49-7 in their final home game in Wellman for 2016.In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, the Hawks took their first possession and drove 63 yards on eight plays, all from running back Ricky Vargas, who capped the drive with a three yard scoring run to make it 7-0. Six minutes later Vargas found the end zone again from three yards out to double the Mid-Prairie lead. Mid-Prairie stretched it to 21-0 early in the second quarter on a jet sweep touchdown run from Justin Schwartz. Mid-Prairie continued to pour it on as Vargas finished his touchdown hat trick in the first half with a one yard dive to make it 28-0 midway through the second, that’s where the score would stand at the halftime break.

In the second half, Mid-Prairie turned an Anamosa fumble into a touchdown following a Jared Miller recovery when Vargas found pay dirt from 10 yards out, making it 34-0 Golden Hawks. Anamosa got their first points of the night when Michael Martensen broke a dive play for 59 yards and a score to get the Blue Raiders within 34-7 but Mid-Prairie responded with a pair of Keaton Duwa touchdown runs, one from two yards out another from 58 to seal the win.

The Golden Hawks outgained Anamosa 453-228 including 453-205 on the ground. Mid-Prairie was led on the night by Keaton Duwa who went for 164 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, Vargas finished with 142 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 4-4 on the year. The Golden Hawks will wrap up their season Friday when they travel to Mediapolis.
