The Mid-Prairie marching band performed their KISS show at the Iowa High School Music Association State Marching Band Festival in Pella on Saturday, and left with a Division I rating. The rating is the highest a band can receive, and Band Instructor David Kunz is proud of his students. He believes it was by far the best the band had sounded, and they displayed everything he has ever asked of them. He was pleased with their tone quality, blend, balance, and articulation, and also felt they marched exceptionally well.

The students in the marching band are quick to give the credit for their success to Kunz. When asked about him, Junior Gina Waters said, “I’d say my band teacher is the most passionate person on the planet. There is nothing he loves more than being a band director and playing music. He’s just someone who I’ve looked up to. He’s a really big role model of mine, and I wish someday I’ll be as passionate about something as he is at band.” People have one final opportunity to hear the Mid-Prairie marching band today at the Stadium Echos concert at 7:15 p.m. in the new indoor athletic facility. Kunz added, the indoor facility has been a great asset to the band, and they look forward to showing it off. He believes it will continue to help make the marching band better.
