Several mistakes led to another district loss for the No. 9 Washington Demon football team (4-2 overall). As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons held their homecoming game Friday against the Keokuk Chiefs at Case Field. Washington was flagged 11 times for 110 yards and committed three turnovers, helping Keokuk to a 16-12 upset victory.

Washington scored all 12 of their points in the first 18 minutes of the game. Keokuk scored 16 unanswered points on a field goal and two touchdown passes.

Quarterback Ryan Reighard accounted for 204 yards of total offense and two touchdowns. Running back Jack Redlinger rushed for a career high 134 yards. Javionn Willis caught four passes for 53 yards. Bryce Sinn, this year’s homecoming king, led the Demon defense with 13 total tackles (three solo). Safety Trey Van Weelden recorded the Demons’ lone turnover, a second half interception.

The loss is the first homecoming defeat for Washington since 2012 and also ends an 18-game winning streak against Southeast Conference opponents. Washington’s record sits at 4-2 overall and 2-2 in district play. The Demons return to the field Friday, hosting the West Burlington Falcons (4-2 overall) in another district battle.
