The playoff run for the No. 9 Sigourney-Keota Cobras football team (8-2) came to an end last night. As heard on AM/FM KCII and KCIIRadio.com, the Cobras’ traveled to Pella Christian High School for a Class 1A first round matchup versus the undefeated No. 2 Eagles (10-0). Sigourney-Keota became Pella Christian’s fourth shutout victim this season, falling 49-0.

The Cobras’ single wing offense, which averaged over 375 rushing yards in the regular season, was held to 121 yards of total offense. Wingback Avery Moore led Sigourney-Keota with 60 rushing yards on 16 carries. Sigourney-Keota’s defense kept the game close for a while as they forced Pella Chrisitan quarterback David Kacmarynski into throwing a season-high three interceptions. The Eagles held a 14-0 advantage at halftime and scored 35 points in the second half.

Sigourney-Keota’s two losses came against top two ranked teams in Class 1A football, Iowa City Regina and Pella Christian, who post a combined record of 19-1. The loss ends the Cobras’ season at 8-2 overall. Sigourney-Keota will lose Ben Appleget, Noah Boender, Cian Borra, Tanner Bos, Cooper Greiner, Will Magill, Avery Moore, Noah Reeves and Alec Schuster to graduation.
