If you notice a glow coming from Marr Park this Saturday, don’t be alarmed, it’s people walking in the Relay for Life Glow Walk. Organizer Deb Tizer says this is the first time the organization has held a glow walk. They wanted to try something new to raise funds for the 2017 Relay for Life event, and this has worked elsewhere. The walk will start at 7 p.m., and people will be decked out in all manner of glow sticks and bracelets as they walk around the pond at Marr Park.

Tizer explains they hope to raise awareness for cancer, in addition to finding new teams and participants for the next Relay for Life event. She says all the money raised will stay in eastern Iowa and go toward cancer research and education, as well as directly helping cancer patients. There will be food provided, including rib-on-a-stick, hot dogs, hot cider, and hot cocoa. There will also be a costume contest with prizes awarded. The cost for the event is $10 for adults, $7.50 for kids, and ages 5 and under are free.
