Multiple top 20 finishes helped the Sigourney Savage boys’ cross country team capture back-to-back conference titles. Six Sigourney athletes were among the first 19 runners to cross the finish line at last week’s South Iowa Cedar League Cross Country Championships in Brooklyn. The Savages won the league title with 62 points, 23 less than the rest of the field.

Sigourney was led by Tyler Crawford and Tommy Stout, who earned all-conference honors by placing in the top 10 individually. Crawford posted the seventh best time at 17:23.9, while Stout took ninth place with a time of 17:41.9. Tristan Bell and Dawson Webster finished 14th and 15th respectively. Paul Montgomery ranked 17th, while Will Flanegin placed 19th.

The Savage also has two runners earn spots on the all-conference girls team. Summer Barthelman recorded the fourth fastest time at 21;47.4. Paige Thompson just made the all-conference cutoff in 10th place with a time of 22:38.6. Sigourney placed fifth out of the seven-team girls’ field, scoring 165 points.
