Southeast Iowa is the only region of the state currently experiencing very short topsoil moisture conditions. According to this week’s U.S. Crop Progress and Condition Report, 10% of southeast Iowa’s topsoil moisture is very short and 17% is short, with 72% adequate. Subsoil moisture is in a similar state with 11% very short, 19% short and 69% adequate in southeast Iowa. Across Iowa subsoil moisture is 80% adequate and 15% surplus.
