One person was arrested after going 70 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone and crashing in Washington Thursday night. According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 6:40 p.m. an officer reported a Mustang trying to get away from him at North 10th and East Main Street; the officer requested assistance and an ambulance as the Mustang had struck another vehicle. One of the vehicles came to rest in the lawn of a nearby house.

The two drivers involved were 21-year-old Dalton Wesley Wayne Nichols of Washington and Meghan Loisann Schneider of Iowa City.

Nichols was arrested for failure to obey a stop sign, speeding 70 miles per hour in a 35 area, speeding 45 miles per hour in a 25 area, no insurance – accident related, no seat belt, reckless driving, unsafe turn and failure to use a turn signal. Washington Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s personnel, Washington Rescue and Washington County Ambulance responded to the incident.
