The latest race sent the Washington Demon cross country teams to the Wellman Golf Course Monday. Iowa Mennonite School hosted their annual IMS Invitational at the course, welcoming runners from Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom (BGM), Clear Creek Amana, Danville, English Valleys, Fairfield, Mid-Prairie, Solon, WACO, Wapello and Williamsburg.

Washington’s best overall result came on the girls’ side where Claire Horak earned another fourth place finish, clocking in at 20:27.36. The Demons’ next best finisher was Meredith Raber, taking 27th place with a time of 23:02.63. Ashley Teelen finished 40th, Maggie Vos was 43rd, Peyton Cuddeback ranked 50th, and Cierra Miller came in 54th. Washington finished sixth in the team standings out of nine teams, scoring 153 points.

A pair of Horaks continue to lead Washington’s boys’ cross country team. Brennan Horak topped the squad with a 15th place finish, clocking a time of 18:24. Evan Horak finished three seconds later for 16th place. Jacob Van Osdol took 29th place, Owen Horak was 34th, Kyle Anderson ranked 54th, and Kiowa Keith was 63rd. The Demons were the fifth best squad in the 12-team field, posting 145 points.

The Washington cross country teams are gearing up for next Thursday’s conference meet at Waterworks Park in Fairfield. The top 10 girls and boys finishers will make the all-conference squad.
