A big first half lead led to a convincing win for the Washington Demon football team Friday night. As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons hosted the West Burlington Falcons (4-3 overall) in a district matchup. Washington scored six first-half touchdowns as the Demons ran away with a 49-7 victory.

In total, seven Washington players found the endzone. Linebacker Tanner Murphy (16 yards) and defensive back John Sands (46 yards) both returned first quarter interceptions for a score. Quarterback Javionn Willis accumulated 182 yards of total offense (108 rushing) and one rushing touchdown. Running backs Jack Redlinger, Tristin Westphal-Edwards, and David Mares each ran in a touchdown. Wideout Jacob Hall recorded his first varsity touchdown on a 17-yard pass from Cade Hennigan in the third quarter.

The Demon defense sacked West Burlington six times and forced three turnovers. Defensive end Bryce Sinn led the way with seven total tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and a fumble recovery.

The victory snaps a two-game skid for Washington at Case Field, improving their overall record to 5-2. The Demons will continue their season in Mahaska County this week, battling the Oskaloosa Indians (5-2 overall) in a district showdown.
