The playoff push for the Washington Demon football team (5-2 overall; 3-2 Class 3A District 5) continues tonight in Mahaska County. The Demons will make their final regular season road trip to Oskaloosa for a battle with the Indians (5-2 overall; 4-1 Class 3A District 5). The Indians enter the contest with a one game lead over the Demons in the district standings.

Washington kept their postseason hopes intact last Friday with a 49-7 victory over the West Burlington Falcons (4-3 overall). The Demons had seven players score a touchdown. Javionn Willis converted from wide receiver to quarterback mid-week after Ryan Reighard suffered a season-ending injury at practice. Willis collected 182 yards of total offense (108 rushing) and ran in a touchdown. Running backs Jack Redlinger, Tristin Westphal-Edwards, and David Mares each ran in a score. Tanner Murphy and John Sands returned first quarter interceptions for touchdowns. Jacob Hall capped off the scoring with his first varsity touchdown, a 17-yard reception from Cade Hennigan in the third quarter.

Oskaloosa is coming off of a blowout victory over the Keokuk Chiefs (4-3 overall), scoring a season-high 61 points. The Indians lead Class 3A football with 18 interceptions, and their 23 turnovers forced tops the district. Quarterback Ethan Arnold is the district leader with 1,578 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. Wide receiver Bennett Spry’s 537 receiving yards is the best in the group. Alex DeJong tops the district with six interceptions, while Spry has recorded five.
