A season-ending knee injury kept Washington quarterback Ryan Reighard from breaking his own school rushing record. The first six games of the season saw Reighard run for 1,025 yards and 11 touchdowns. The injury occurred prior to Washington’s week 7 game against West Burlington. In the final three games of the season, only Fairfield quarterback Cameron Baumann overtook Reighard in the district’s individual rushing statistics. Baumann tallied 1,041 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Reighard is the first Washington athlete since Justin Greiner (2004-05) to record over 1,000 yards rushing in back-to-back seasons. Reighard set Washington’s single-season rushing record last year with 1,526 yards and 21 touchdowns. He averaged 171 rushing yards per game before the injury. If Reighard posted median numbers the rest of the season, he would’ve surpassed his own record by 12 yards.

Washington concluded the season with a 6-3 overall record, the Demons’ sixth straight winning season. Reighard is projected to return to the Washington football team next season.
