The Columbus Wildcat football team ended 2016 on a high note shutting out Van Buren on senior night in Columbus Junction 48-0.

The Wildcats rolled up 280 total yards in the game, 232 of that on the ground. The Wildcats also got production from the defense as Nick Hernandez returned a fumble 26 yards for a touchdown. In total the Wildcat defense held the Warriors to just 134 yards of total offense. Van Buren was just four of 24 in the passing game.

Individually, Carter Colby was two for five through the air for 42 yards. He was also the leading ground gainer with three carries for 61 yards and a touchdown. Ruben Paz had a big night in the return game, bringing a punt and a kickoff back for a touchdown, averaging 70 yards per kick return. Paz added a rushing touchdown as well. Daniel Fuentes and Ricky Briones also found the end zone for the Wildcats in the contest. With the win, Columbus ends the season at 2-7.
