A new season of Washington Demon girls’ basketball is set to begin tonight in Monroe County. The Demons will travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School for a non-conference battle versus the Rockets. Washington won last year’s meeting in overtime, 38-34.

Washington lost five players of last year’s 10-11 campaign, including Amber Salow, Morgan Kimball, Addie Pacha, McKayla Miller and Brynna DeLong. The quintet accounted for 660 of the team’s 965 points scored. Sarah Nacos returns to lead this year’s Demon squad. Nacos, a second team all-conference performer as a sophomore, led the Demons with 206 points and 49 steals. She was the only non-senior to score versus Eddyville-Blakesburg last year, recording four points, four steals, and two rebounds.

Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont had a successful campaign last season, winning 16 of their 23 games played. The Rockets are looking to replace last year’s leading scorer and rebounder. Karlie Taylor topped the South Central Conference with 462 points and 241 rebounds.

KCII Sports will have live play-by-play coverage from Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School, beginning with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 7 p.m. on AM/FM KCII.
