The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team opened practice for the new season on Monday. Mid-Prairie is coming off of a 1-21 season a year ago.

This marked the second straight season the Hawks finished with one victory. Mid-Prairie ended the season at Iowa City Regina High School in the first round of district play falling to the Wilton Beavers.

Graduating from last year’s team were team scoring and assist leader and second team All-River Valley Conference guard Nolan Faselt, along with contributors Ryan Cortum, Ben Stone and Noah Altenhofen. The Golden Hawks do return leading rebounder Caleb Stater, who finished 10th in the league with 114 a season ago. Statler also led the River Valley Conference with 39 blocks last year, more than double the total of any other player. Other contributors back on this year’s team as seniors include Derek Rich, Nathan Reed and Carter Reinier.

The Golden Hawks will be under the direction of first year head coach Daren Lambert this season. Lambert, who came to Mid-Prairie over the summer and was an assistant on head coach Pete Cavanagh’s football staff, is a native of Dennison, Iowa and joined the program after relocating from the Raytown School District in Kansas City.

The Golden Hawks open the season at Tipton November 29th.
