The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team is set to hit the mat tonight for the first time in the new season.

Mid-Prairie finished with a 12-9 dual record a season ago, one win shy of the school record. The Hawks were 8-4 in the River Valley Conference, finishing in fifth place. The Golden Hawks graduated one senior from last year’s team with 170lb, former state qualifier Cameron Tolander moving on through graduation. The Golden Hawks will also be without the services of Levi Duwa this season. Last year’s state runner-up at 220lbs received news recently that a football injury will keep him off the mat this season. The Golden Hawks do return two time state qualifier, and conference champion Duncan McCain, who reached 100 career wins last season.

Mid-Prairie opens the season tonight when they host a quadrangular against Eddyville-Blakesburg, English Valleys and Wapello. The Golden Hawks were 2-1 at this event a year ago, beating Eddyville-Blakesburg 42-36, topping English Valleys 54-24 and falling to Wapello on criteria 43-42.

Action begins tonight at 6PM at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.
