The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team is gearing up for the winter sports season. Last year the Hawks ended with a 12-9 dual record, one win shy of the school record.

Mid-Prairie was 8-4 in the River Valley Conference, good for fifth place. The Golden Hawks won their first bracket tournament in school history taking the championship at WACO in January. Cameron Tolander, Levi Duwa and Duncan McCain all won RVC championships in their weight class while Duwa and McCain went on to qualify for the state meet in Des Moines. Duwa finished as state runner up at 220lbs.

This season Mid-Prairie returns Duwa, McCain and Visouth Peterschmidt who was a district qualifier a season ago.

Head Coach Justin Garvey says that the overall numbers in the program are up at 24, the highest in his nine years with the program.

The Golden Hawk wrestling team opens the season Tuesday, November 29th at home in a quad meet with Eddyville-Blakesburg, English Valleys and Wapello.
