Henry County Conservation is hosting a winter bird feeding program Sunday, continuing their series of programs devoted to backyard improvement. In addition to learning about birds attendees can see and feed during the winter months, they will have the opportunity to win a raffle for one of six free bird feeder kits to take home. Park Ranger and Naturalist Trenton Hoekstra will be leading the event, which he says was envisioned by himself and fellow Naturalist Cari Nicely last year.

He says they prefer doing events that are more interactive, as opposed to having a presentation. With that in mind, they’ve had several raffles throughout the year, including those for rain barrels, compost bins, and now bird feeders. He adds, this year’s theme has been backyard gardening, and their goal is to help people in both rural and city areas make their gardens and backyards more enjoyable. The winter bird feeding program is free and appropriate for all ages. It begins Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Oakland Mills Nature Center in Mt. Pleasant.
