At the most recent meeting, the Highland School Board discussed Ainsworth Elementary, and whether or not they would close the school after this year. Superintendent Chris Armstrong said he has been gathering data regarding the costs involved with running the school, including building costs and cost per student. They will also collect surveys from community members. The board is scheduled to make a decision on whether or not they will keep the school open by February 1st.

If they decide to close the school, Armstrong says the destination of the Ainsworth students has not been finalized, but they will most likely be placed at Riverside Elementary. He currently has Highland’s transportation director looking into the cost and logistics of busing the students from Ainsworth to Riverside. Ainsworth Elementary currently shares Principal Jane O’Leary with Riverside, and there are 69 students enrolled, with a projected 58 attending next year.
