Several Highland Huskies football players earned postseason accolades after achieving the team’s first winning season since 2012. A five-win campaign resulted in nine Highland football players being named to the all-district team, including seven seniors.

Bill Burton, Chase Rath, Johnny Poeschel, and Trey Lasek represent Highland on the all-district first team. Burton was chosen for the team as a defensive back. He finished his high school career as the Class 1A leader with eight interceptions. Burton also led the Huskies with 52.5 total tackles. Rath was selected as the punter. He posted a district-best 911 yards on 22 punts, an average of 41.4 yards per kick. Poeschel, a first-team linebacker, topped the team with five solo tackles for loss and his 36 total tackles ranked second. Lasek was picked as an all-district offensive utility player. His compiled 889 yards of total offense, including a team-best 799 yards rushing. He scored 10 touchdowns.

Trent Lasek and Blake Donovan highlight Highland’s second team all-district selections. Lasek led the team with 41 receptions for 555 yards and six touchdowns. Donovan recorded a team-best four sacks. He also had 27.5 total tackles. Matt Hoenig, Jake Wood, and Brady Hahn are the Huskies’ honorable mention selections.

Highland finished the season with a 5-4 overall record, a one-win improvement from last year. The Huskies will graduate nine seniors.
