At their most recent meeting, the Keota School Board received a report from Business Manager Cherie Westendorf regarding the district’s unspent balance and received good news. Superintendent Dennis Phelps said they had a preliminary unspent balance of $997,419 on the budget, which was an increase of nearly $215,000 over the previous year’s figure. Phelps explained the unspent balance comes from the funds annually allocated to the school from the government, and whatever money is left over from year to year contributes to the district’s general fund. The general fund pays for things such as teacher salaries and benefits, utilities, transportation, and supplies. The school board was excited to see such substantial growth in funds and sees it as a positive sign for the future of the district.
