Lt. Col. Mark Coble of the Iowa National Guard will be the keynote speaker Friday at a Veterans Day dinner in Washington. Coble’s talk is titled, “Reflections on Veterans Day: Service, History and the Long War.” Coble, a native of Wayland, has served nearly 30 years in the Iowa National Guard, including tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. Veterans and their families are welcome to the free will donation dinner. Dave Stoufer shares it is important to have events like this each year to honor the men and women who have put on a uniform, even when they didn’t want to, to protect our freedom and our country. The Washington County Military Museum and American Legion Post #29 are co-hosting the event at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington beginning at 6 p.m. Reservations are not required.
