The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team finished 2016 with three straight victories after starting 2-4.

The Golden Hawks finished fourth in class 2A district five with a mark of 4-3 within the league. Mid-Prairie finished with the fewest passing yards in the district, but third overall in rushing and total offense. Historically, this Mid-Prairie team scored the seventh most points in a season in school history with 299, eighth most touchdowns in a season with 42, 10th most total yards with 2,999 and eighth most rushing yards with 2,340. The Golden Hawk defense forced 11 turnovers during the year and gave up 26 points per game.

Individually, the Golden Hawks were led by Ricky Vargas who rushed for 1,304 yards in 2016. The seventh highest single season total in school history and best in the district. His career total of 2,592 yards is fourth most. His 21 touchdowns led the Hawks this year, is the fourth highest single season total in school history and second most in the district. His 35 career touchdown mark is fifth most in the history of the program. Vargas scored 126 points this season, fifth most in program history. His 214 career points are sixth most. Karson Gingerich led the Golden Hawks in the passing game, going 48 for 100 for 651 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Leading receiver was Terrhyn Jacoby with nine catches for 184 yards and two scores. Historically, tight end Levi Duwa, whose senior season was cut short due to injury finished second in school history with nine touchdown catches, seventh in receiving yards with 673 and eighth with 46 passes caught.

Defensively, Vargas led Mid-Prairie at linebacker with 51 tackles, seventh most in the district. Vargas and Carter Reiner were third in the district with three interceptions a piece. Keaton Duwa and Jared Miller finished second in the district, each with two fumble recoveries.

Mid-Prairie finished 2016 with a 5-4 overall record.
