Over a third of the soil in southeast Iowa is short or very short on moisture. According to this week’s Crop Progress and Condition Report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, topsoil moisture in southeast Iowa is 13% very short and 25% short, with 61% adequate. Across Iowa topsoil moisture is 85% adequate with subsoil moisture at 83% adequate. In the southeast area, subsoil moisture is rated at 13% very short, 20% short and 66% adequate.

According to the National Weather Service, Washington is five inches below normal in regards to precipitation for the year. Washington has observed 28.5 inches of precipitation since January 1st. No rain is expected over the weekend, listen to KCII for weather updates.
