A fire in late June at the Kalona Bakery caused damage to neighboring Kalona Chocolates, and after four months of repairs and cleaning, the chocolate shop has reopened. Owner Lyndon Herschberger says it’s been nice to be able to reopen their doors, and they’ve had a lot of business over the last week. While the store was closed, they were still able to sell their products locally. Herschberger says they sold chocolates at the Kalona Coffee House, as well as the Kalona General Store. Additionally, Kalona Chocolates has several wholesale accounts and were able to sell their products in the area even without a retail space. After the June 25th fire, it was a month before Kalona Chocolates had their kitchen ready and resumed wholesale. The retail space was officially reopened on Friday, October 21st.
