Two cars collided on Highway 218 near Highland High School Wednesday and one person was taken to the hospital. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, at 5:58 p.m. the collision occurred in the southbound lanes of Highway 218 at the intersection with 170th Street.

Ashlyn Weber of Riverside was westbound on 170th Street, stopped at the stop sign, crossed the northbound lanes of the highway and proceeded to the median. Weber then started to go across the southbound lanes where her car was struck by a vehicle. The second vehicle was driven by Sarah Baxter of Mt. Pleasant.

Weber was cited for failure to yield upon entering a thru highway. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. A 15-year-old passenger of the Weber vehicle was taken by ambulance to the University of Iowa hospital. Riverside QRS, Riverside Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff’s personnel and Washington County Ambulance responded to the scene.
