The seven seniors on this year’s Washington Demon wrestling team have been a part of several program-defining moments since their freshman year. The group has helped Washington earn the Southeast Conference championship each of the last three years and qualified the program for their first state dual tournament last February. Four of the seven seniors have competed in the individual state wrestling tournament, including Kyle Anderson, Andrew Waite, Austin Hazelett, and Trey Van Weelden.

Anderson, Waite, Hazelett, Van Weelden, Karlton Skubal, Alex Latchum and Lane Keeler are guests on tonight’s Winter Sports Preview and spoke about their goals for the upcoming season. The group aims to capture their fourth straight Southeast conference title, qualify for their second straight state dual tournament and send multiple wrestlers to the individual state wrestling tournament.

Washington is coming off their best wrestling season in program history, winning 32 of 35 duals. They placed sixth in the Class 2A state dual wrestling tournament. In addition, four wrestlers represented Washington at the individual state tournament, including Van Weelden, Hazelett, Waite, and Tristin Westphal-Edwards.

The Demon wrestling season begins in Washington on November 29th, hosting a quadrangular versus Benton, Iowa Valley, and HLV. Listen to an interview with the seniors of Washington Demon wrestling on the Winter Sports Preview show, tonight at 6 p.m. on AM/FM KCII.
