A new season of Washington Demon wrestling begins with the team ranked in the Class 2A preseason poll. The website, iawrestle.com, released their preseason rankings last week for all classes and Washington is ranked 10th in the initial Class 2A poll. The Solon Spartans were chosen as the site’s No. 1 team in Class 2A.

In addition, five Washington wrestlers earned individual rankings in Class 2A. Walker Ikerd starts the season as the No. 5 wrestler in the 106-pound weight class. Kyle Anderson, a two-time state medalist, begins his final high school wrestling season as the No. 8 wrestler in the 126-pound weight class. Trey Van Weelden, a state medalist last season, leads off the season as the No. 4 wrestler at 152 pounds. Tristin Westphal-Edwards enters his sophomore campaign as the No. 4 wrestler in the 160-pound weight class. Karlton Skubal rounds out Washington’s ranked individual wrestlers as the No. 6 grappler at 195 pounds.

The Washington Demon wrestling team opens their season tonight at home, hosting a quadrangular versus Benton, Iowa Valley, and HLV. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at Washington High School.
