The 2016 waterfowl hunting season began in late October, and it’s in full swing in Louisa County. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reminds people, the water in the county is still high and some hunting locations may be deeper than in previous years. As such, duck and goose hunters should always check the water depth before exiting their boat. Some hunters like to use portable blinds or decoys, but the DNR reminds them there are time restrictions for when those can be used. Portable blinds and decoys are prohibited from one hour after sunset until midnight each day. Duck season runs from now until December 15th, and goose season runs until January 18th. Louisa County is a hotbed for waterfowl hunting, with many ideal locations such as Lake Odessa.
