The Columbus Wildcats football team (2-7) earned multiple postseason accolades after a two-win season under first-year head coach Scott Simmons. Two players represent Columbus on the first team all-district squad and another pair are on the second team.

Nick Hernandez and Andrew King are the Wildcats’ first team all-district selections. Hernandez was the team’s starting wingback and linebacker. He led the Wildcats with 52.5 total tackles and returned a fumble 26 yards for a touchdown. Hernandez also rushed for 270 yards and three touchdowns. King played along Columbus’ offensive and defensive lines. He made 17.5 total tackles and one tackle for loss.

Carter Colby and Abel Mena represent Columbus on the second team all-district squad. Colby was a three-year starter at quarterback. He led Columbus with 966 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns. Mena was a running back and linebacker. His 46.5 total tackles ranked second on the team. He compiled 264 yards of total offense and one touchdown.

Jacob Tiffany, Daniel Fuentes, and Ricky Briones were the Wildcats’ honorable mention selections. Columbus finished the season with a 2-7 overall record. The Wildcats will graduate 12 seniors.
