On Wednesday, Iowa’s cattle producers voted on whether or not they want the Iowa Beef Checkoff reinstated. The results of that vote will be released by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship around December 14th, according to Washington County’s Iowa State University Extension and Outreach office. Only individuals who owned or acquired cattle during the past year were able to vote on the referendum. If passed, 50-cents would be assessed on each head of cattle sold in Iowa. The seller would pay the fee and that money will be used by the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association to market and promote Iowa’s beef, production research, and educational opportunities.
