Washington had over five inches of snow fall over the weekend and residents are reminded to clear their sidewalks. Steve Donnolly, building and zoning official for the City of Washington, says the city’s ordinance is to keep people safe, as there are many pedestrians in Washington.

Property owners and occupants have 24 hours once the snow has stopped or ice has formed to clear the sidewalks. Also, do not put snow from the sidewalks into the streets. If a sidewalk isn’t cleared, city staff will leave a reminder on the door for the residents to clean it. If it still isn’t cleaned after that, city staff can clear it and charge the property owner for the work. Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact Donnolly at City Hall.
