The remodeled ambulance base in Columbus Junction is complete, and the city will hold a ribbon cutting Thursday to christen the new facility. The expansion adds 4,000 square-feet to the existing 1,600 square-foot building, and houses three ambulance bays and two sleeping quarters. The original building has been converted into classroom, office, restroom, storage, and kitchenette facilities. The city received over $255,000 from 110 donors toward the $450,000 project, and the remainder of the cost will be financed by the nonprofit Columbus Community Medical Facilities Association, Inc.

The base is headquarters for Louisa County Ambulance, which services a 513 square-mile area that includes the cities of Columbus Junction, Columbus City, Fredonia, Cotter, Grandview, Letts, Conesville, and the surrounding townships.

The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting, which will be held Thursday at 4:30 p.m at the base, located at 105 Gamble Street in Columbus Junction. An open house will follow to give people an opportunity to tour the facility, and refreshments will be provided.
