A challenging weekend of grappling awaits the No. 10 Washington Demon wrestling team today. The Demons have entered into the Mount Vernon Wrestling tournament which will feature athletes from 14 schools from across the state including: Anamosa, Assumption, Beckman Catholic, East Buchanan, Lisbon, Lousia-Muscatine, Marion, Mid-Prairie, Mount Vernon, Sigourney, Wapello, West Liberty, West Marshall, and Xavier.

Washington’s ranked wrestlers could square off against other top grapplers in their weight class. Walker Ikerd, Class 2A’s No. 6 wrestler at 106, has four ranked wrestlers in his bracket including Assumptions Trent McDonough (5th), Mount Vernon’s Jack Streicher (7th), and West Liberty’s Will Esmoil (8th). The 106 pound bracket also featured Class 1A No. 4 Cobe Siebrecht of Libson. Kyle Anderson, the No. 6 grappler at 126 pounds, could share the mat with Class 1A No. 4 Cooper Siebrecht of Lisbon. Austin Hazelett, the No. 8 athlete at 145 pounds, is in a bracket with No. 3 Cooper White of West Marshall and Class 1A No. 8 Brayden Nunemaker of East Buchannan. Trey Van Weelden, ranked fifth at 152 pounds, has top ranked Joe Kelly of West Liberty and No. 8 Julian Broderson of Assumption in his field. The 152 pound bracket also includes Class 1A No. 10 Kaden Kilburg of Lisbon. Tristin Westphal-Edwards, the No. 6 wrestler at 160 pounds, is in the same field as Class 1A No. 4 Rogan Pforts.

First matches of the morning will commence at 10 a.m. at Mount Vernon High School.
