The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams hosted the Durant Wildcats in a River Valley Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Wellman.

The Mid-Prairie girls beat Durant 45-32 to grab their third win in a row. The Golden Hawks opened the game with the first basket, but Durant held a 9-8 lead after one period. The defensive battle continued into the second quarter with the Hawks pushing ahead 15-14 at the half. In the second half, Mid-Prairie was able to gain track and go on a run to lead by eight late in the third. Durant would pull within two midway through the final frame but the Golden Hawks weathered the storm and finished the game at the free throw line for the win.

The Golden Hawks were led by Addie Rath with 17 points, Shae Becker added 11. Mid-Prairie is now 4-3 on the year.

The Golden Hawk boys saw a late lead evaporate as Durant claimed a 53-48 RVC win. The Hawks had a slow start on the offensive end, finishing the entire first period without a field goal, trailing 10-3. Mid-Prairie got things going in the second quarter, scoring 20 points to hold a 23-22 lead at the break. In the third Mid-Prairie scored the first seven of the half to build a lead of eight before the Wildcats started chipping away. Durant took their first lead at 44-42 midway through the fourth quarter. Mid-Prairie rallied from down five to cut the deficit to three with 15 seconds remaining but a Golden Hawk turnover stopped the final possession.

Mid-Prairie was led by Tom Butters and Brad Tornow who each finished with 13 points. With the loss Mid-Prairie falls to 2-4 on the year. The Golden Hawk boys and girls will next be in action Tuesday when they travel to West Branch.
