The Iowa High School Athletic Association mandates a moratorium period for all high school athletics from December 24 through the end of the year . However, a recommendation by the Iowa Basketball Advisory Committee could change the rules for boys and girls basketball. The committee’s suggestion to the IHSAA board of control in July was to allow the option for teams to schedule or reschedule regular-season games or conduct a four-team holiday tournament from December 27-30.

IHSAA Associate Executive Director Brett Nanninga says the recommendation is completely optional and would open the doors for districts who want to hold regular season games or small holiday tournaments after December 26. Nanninga says this allows additional days for athletic directors to reschedule postponed games from earlier in the season. Nanninga says the proposal has been put on hold but will be further studied and discussed. In the future, a determination will be made whether to continue the moratorium or discontinue the practice..

High school athletic competition in Iowa will resume next Monday. The next broadcast on KCII will be on January 3.
