The Iowa Mennonite and Columbus boys and girls basketball teams battled in doubleheader action Friday at Hillcrest Union in Kalona.

The Columbus girls used a big second half to pull away for a 59-42 win. After the game seesawed back and forth in the first four minutes, the Wildcats went on a 12-2 to building a 13-6 lead after the first quarter and held a 24-19 advantage at the half. In the second half, Bailey Stroud and Shania Boyd Combined for 29 of the teams 35 points. The Wildcats began a run in the third quarter of 24-6 and led 37-29 going to the fourth.

Stroud led Columbus with 21 points, Boyd had 20. The Wildcats forced 30 IMS turnovers. In the loss IMS sophomore Suzanna Yoder scored a career high 29. Columbus is now 3-2 on the year as IMS falls to 0-4.

The Iowa Mennonite boys basketball team blew open a tight game at the half to beat Columbus 56-29. Iowa Mennonite led 13-6 after the first quarter and 22-19 at the break. The third quarter belonged to IMS as they went on a 21-4 run that lasted the entire frame and sealed the win.

Cole Ours led IMS with his career high 18 points, all in the second half. Mitchell Schmeider had 15 and Cole Yoder added 10. Carter Colby led Columbus with a dozen. With the win IMS is now 2-2 on the year, Columbus falls to 0-5.
