Live Christmas trees can be a joy to have during the holidays, but once the holidays are over, they have a tendency to simply be in the way. However, residents of Kalona will have two opportunities to have the trees taken care of for them. People in the city limits can put their trees on the corner with the rest of their garbage on Monday, December 26th or January 2nd, and they will be picked up at their normal trash pickup times at no additional charge. Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh reminds people to strip the tree of any lights, tinsel, or other decorations before putting the trees on the curb, or the sanitation workers won’t take them.
