Three of the top four scorers on this year’s Highland Huskies boys’ basketball team (6-0) come from one family. The Huskies enter the new year in first place in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Standings, winning their first six contests by an average of 17.5 points per game.

Three Lasek brothers have combined to score 204 of Highland’s 371 points, accounting for nearly 55 percent of the Huskies’ offensive production. Zach Lasek, a freshman forward, is Highland’s leading scorer with 84 points. He also leads Highland with 46 rebounds and 12 blocks. Trent Lasek, a two-time first team all-conference guard, sits second on the team with 72 points. Trey Lasek, a sophomore forward, ranks fourth on the team with 48 points. Bill Burton is third on the team with 50 points scored. The Lasek threesome accounted for 40 points in a 61-50 upset victory over No. 3 Lone Tree (5-1) on December 20. Zach Lasek led the way with 20 points and four rebounds.

The Highland Huskies boys’ basketball team resumes play next Tuesday, traveling to Louisa County for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference matchup versus the Wapello Indians (5-1).
