A man is set to go to trial next week for an April incident of vehicular homicide and hit and run resulting in death. Twenty-six-year-old Justin Hay was involved in a car crash that killed Lindy Greenfield on April 9th in Mt. Pleasant. Hay fled the scene on foot and was not heard from until he was discovered at the Jefferson County Hospital on April 18th. Hay was formally charged on September 9th with homicide by vehicle and reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. He was brought into custody on October 5th by the Jefferson County Sheriff, and is now in the Henry County Jail.

He was assigned a public defender, and had his initial appearance in court on October 7th. On October 19th, Hay had a written arraignment where he entered a plea of not guilty. His jury trial is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, December 13th, but according to the Henry County Attorney’s Office, it could be pushed back due to various motions made to the judge. Hay is still in custody at the Henry County Jail on $10,000 cash only bond. The Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation have been assisting the Henry County Attorney with the case.
