The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team topped West Liberty Friday night at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman 60-49.

The Comets scored the first seven points of the game but Mid-Prairie responded with six in a row, ultimately taking their first lead at 13-10 near the end of the first quarter. With the game tied at 13 going to the second, Mid-Prairie started the frame on a 7-0 run and took a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the contest. The Golden Hawks led 31-20 at the half time break. The Comets made several pushes in the second half, getting as close at 47-40 early in the fourth quarter before Mid-Prairie used hot shooting and consecutive defensive stops to put the game out of reach.

Mid-Prairie was led in the game by Caleb Statler with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. Carter Reinier and Cary Schaefer each finished with 12 points, combining for six three point goals. The win gives Mid-Prairie consecutive wins for the first time since January of 2014, and their first season with more than one win in the last three. The Golden Hawks are now 2-3 on the season.
