While the temperatures are dropping, PAWS and More Animal Shelter in Washington is worried about when the thermometer begins to rise in the spring because their air conditioner stopped working this fall. The shelter is working to raise $12,000 to replace the air conditioning system before the warm weather returns. Director of the shelter Amber Talbot explains it is important to regulate the temperature in the shelter where the animals are kept in order to keep them healthy and happy. The shelter applied for a grant but it was not awarded.

This weekend PAWS and More is holding its annual holiday open house where items will be available for purchase with proceeds going to the shelter. It’s also a chance to meet the animals and consider adopting one during the holidays. Talbot says the goal is to find everyone a home for the holidays.

They’ll also be accepting donations of toys for the animals. They do not need food, and actually have a program to help provide food for pets of community members. The open house will be held Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Donations for the air conditioning system can be made at the open house or online through PayPal.
